FAQs about Anxiety Therapy
-
Do you offer in-person child anxiety therapy in St. Louis?
Yes. We see clients in person at our office at 3250 Hampton Ave in St. Louis. We’re located in North Hampton, a few miles south of Forest Park and the Hill. We also offer online therapy for families anywhere in Missouri or Illinois. A lot of families do a mix, in person when it works and online when it doesn’t.

Does anxiety therapy actually help, or is it just talking about my anxiety?
CBT has more research behind it than any other approach to anxiety, and a lot of that comes down to it being active rather than reflective. You’re not just describing your anxiety to someone, you’re testing specific thoughts, practicing specific behaviors, and tracking what changes. When doing homework between sessions, most people start noticing changes within the first several sessions, not because talking it through is inherently powerful, but because they’re doing something different between sessions and seeing what happens. The end goal isn’t to depend on therapy indefinitely, it’s to teach you the process well enough that you can keep using it on your own after treatment ends.
-
Does my child need medication for anxiety?
Not necessarily. Therapy alone is effective for a lot of kids with anxiety and OCD. For some kids, medication combined with therapy works best. That’s a decision we’d talk through together based on your child’s specific symptoms, and if medication seems worth considering, we can help you think about next steps.

How can I prepare for testing?
Testing is conducted in person in our office in south St. Louis.
Before your child’s testing appointment you will need to complete online forms and gather and submit some information. This information may include things like academic records, report cards, or SAT/ACT scores, releases of information from other treatment providers, or hospital records. Once the forms are complete and information submitted, you will schedule the testing day.
Before the testing day support your child in getting a good night’s rest and have a healthy breakfast in the morning. Your child should take all medications as prescribed on the testing day. You’ll have a break for lunch and you’re welcome to pack a lunch/snacks or leave the office to get lunch elsewhere.
